Sail Victoria B.C.

Fainleog is a well maintained and fully equipped, 36 foot 1980 Canadian Sailcraft Sloop. Designed by the internationally acclaimed marine architect Ray Wall, the CS 36 Traditional was built in Ontario By CS yachts until the early 1990s. These yachts are world renowned for their quality, ruggedness and seaworthiness. Unlike most production yachts, the CS was designed for real offshore work and many have sailed to the far corners of the world.

Fainleog herself has seen Mexico, Hawaii, as well as the Gulf Islands and BC’s Inside Passage.

Despite these qualities, she is also weatherly, reasonably fast and comfortable. Our version has the optional shoal draft keel and this allows her to explore islets and anchorages that deeper draught vessels wouldn’t dare approach.

She has lazy jacks for the mainsail and roller furling for the jib, making sail handling much easier than on a standard sailing rig. We are equipped with autohelm, radar and have multiple redundant navigation systems aboard so that in the event of any equipment failure we can continue on in safety.

She is also equipped with all safety gear recommended and required by the Coast Guard.

Below decks she has full refrigeration and a freezer, a three burner stove with oven, numerous lockers and drawers for personal effects, a great deal of lovely teak trim, hot and cold running water, a shower, and a Dickenson propane fireplace to keep things cosy on the coldest nights. Tracy and Nathaniel have lived “on the hook” for over ten days without having to recharge ship’s batteries due to our solar panel array and large battery bank.

120V power is available at all times to recharge cell phones, laptops and digital cameras.

Tracy and Nathaniel have lived aboard Fainleog for over two years and found her to be a warm and comfortable home, whether at sea, at anchor, or moored to a dock.

ABOUT HER NAME:

Fainleog is pronounced fawn-logue, which Irish Gaelic for “Swallow”. Tracy and Nathaniel chose this name as the swallow was traditionally a beloved symbol to sailors; the swallow was often the first land bird a sailor would see upon returning to harbour, and came to symbolise both freedom and coming home safely. Most sailors would have at least one swallow tattoo; ask to see Nathaniel’s!
